Volunteering in the Classroom

PPA Parent & Student Handbook, page 21

Parents and Other School Visitors All school visitors and volunteers, including parents, must enter through the front doors located on the south side of the building and sign in to the Help Counter on the iPad at the front desk. All school visitors must provide a valid ID to the front desk and wear a name tag while in the building or on school grounds between the hours of 7:30 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. All visitors must then also check out using the Help Counter before exiting the building.

We encourage parents to volunteer in student classrooms! Please contact your student’s homeroom teacher for times/dates and also check the Help Counter Volunteer website.

When in a classroom, please follow these guidelines:

  • Support the teacher, teaching assistants and students. This is not the time to ask for a conference with your student’s teacher. Please make those plans by email, not during class instruction time.
  • Kindness matters. A smile, supportive comments and direction - these are all things we ask of our volunteers. If a student needs redirection, please ask the teacher and/or teaching assistant for support.
  • Please stay in the classroom you signed up to support. Please only move to another location if asked by the teacher you are supporting. Walking between classrooms and interrupting instruction time is not appropriate. Again, if you need to speak with your student’s teacher(s), email them. The teacher will be able to connect with you, without taking away from student learning time.
