Uniforms FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions for Uniforms
at Parker Performing Arts School

Please read the PPA Official Uniform Policy in its entirety.

How do we order uniforms?
We have partnered with several vendors to provide everything you need for your students. We have tried to make it as simple as possible for you. View the ‘Uniform Ordering’ link for more information on our vendors.

Does my student have to wear the school uniform?
Yes. The school principal may allow exceptions to the Uniform Policy on a case by case basis in extenuating circumstances defined by PPA as either medical, legal, religious, or other personal hardship. The school principal may authorize additional exceptions or allow alternate options to the Uniform Policy such as Dress of Choice or Spirit days, etc.

What items do I have to have?
Every student should have the required day to day uniforms, and also have the required formal uniform.  Additionally, grades 5-8 should have the required uniform if they are participating in dance.

There are many additional optional items to provide variety, layers, and convenience.  These items include PPA approved sweaters, cardigans, and hoodies. See the Uniform Policy for more information.

We have never attended a uniform school. How many items do we need?
We recommend having at least 3 solid black bottoms (any combination of pants, leggings, shorts, skorts, jumper), 5 solid polo tops (red, black, white, and gray), as well as the required formal uniform. A sweater or vest would be a good idea for cooler weather. You may want to add items throughout the year, depending on what your student prefers to wear and how quickly they go through them during the week.

My student has a sensory disorder and might not be able to wear the uniform.
Consider choosing polo shirts made of pique or sport/performance polo fabric. The school principal may allow exceptions to the Uniform Policy on a case by case basis in extenuating circumstances defined by PPA as either medical, legal, religious, or other personal hardship.

What if finances are a concern for my family?
If finances are a concern for your family, please email our registrar at [email protected] or our Parent Community Association at [email protected] to discuss options.
Used and gently worn uniforms are an option, though sizes are limited.

Please be aware that documentation of financial circumstances will likely be required.

Does my child have to wear a belt?
Belts are not allowed for students in grades K-4. Belts are optional for students in grades 5-8. If worn, belts must be plain solid black belts and may not have any decorative elements including ‘bling’, wording, or images. Belt buckles must be plain and free of any wording, messaging, pictures, or symbols.

Can my child wear any shoe they want?
Any shoes may be worn day to day as long as the following guidelines are met. All shoes must be closed toe shoes and free from custom decor. Shoes must be factory made and ‘off the shelf’. ‘Bling’, spikes of any kind, large and multiple buckles, long shoe laces, wheels of any kind, or shoes with any other feature that could injure or be hazardous to any child are not allowed. High heels or heels of any kind, wheelies, sandals, flip flops, slippers, or similar shoes are not allowed. Inappropriate words, messaging, pictures, or symbols are not allowed on shoes. Fashion boots without a heel are acceptable. If snow boots are worn to school due to weather conditions, they must be removed and kept in lockers or classroom cubbies during school hours (except at recess). Some theater and dance classes may require specific types of shoes to be worn. Specific information will be provided to families in this case.

Do polo shirts have to have the PPA logo?
At this time, the PPA logo is not required on polo shirts; however, PPA reserves the right to add its logo to uniforms as needed.

The PPA logo is required on the formal shirts; white short sleeve or long sleeve Peter Pan (K-4th girls) or Oxford button up shirt (K-4th boys/5th-8th girls and boys), as well as the PPA approved cardigan, sweater, sweater vest, and sweatshirt.

What about coats that are worn to and from school?
Jackets, coats, or non-school approved hoodies are not allowed to be worn during the school day in classes. When jackets, coats, or non-school approved hoodies are worn to school, they must be removed and kept in lockers or classroom cubbies during school hours (except at recess). If there are systemic HVAC heating or cooling problems in the school, exceptions will be made. PPA approved uniform sweatshirts, sweaters, sweater vests, hoodies and cardigans with the PPA logo or uniform colors are approved to be worn during classes. Please note that all students are required to wear an unaltered uniform short sleeve or long sleeve polo shirt underneath the approved outwear. An exception will be made for dance students wearing approved dancewear on dance class days. PPA approved Hoodies must remain on at all times if this option is utilized.

Will the uniform styles change from year to year?
Our vision for the style of our uniform is to be consistent in expectation. There may be yearly implementations or additions. We want to protect the investment that parents have made into uniforms.
